1. Overview

Toll Free Data Privacy, "the App” provides services to receive and process data privacy requests from customers "the Service" to merchants who use Shopify to power their stores. This Privacy Policy describes how personal information is collected, used, and shared when you install or use the App in connection with your Shopify-supported store.

2. Personal Information the App Collects

When you install the App, we are automatically able to access certain types of information from your Shopify account:

  • Read your shop's profile - We save this information to keep in touch with the shop owner and to help customize certain screens in the application, such as verification confirmation screens encountered by end-customers.
  • Search your customer list - When The App receives a data privacy request from a customer, we need to identify that customer and validate their request. We use the information provided by your customer to find them in your shop's customer list. Information about a found customer is displayed in our UI to the shop owner.
  • Search your order list - One option when The App receives a data privacy request is for a customer to identify themselves by referencing a previous order number. If an order number is specified, The App will attempt to validate this order number against the order list of your shop to identify the associated customer.

Information about individuals who are customers of your store may be collected, as described above, when they file a data privacy request. The information collected is used to validate that the requestor who provided this information is a customer of your store. We also use this information to contact your customer to validate their data privacy request. Once the data privacy request has been processed (either successfully or unsuccessfully), we clear all personal information related to the request from the App. As mentioned above, the personal information we collect about a customer includes:

  • Customer name
  • customer mobile phone number
  • customer email

“Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps. “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site. We may leverage tracking information from these tags or pixels to market to shop owners who visit our page in the shopify app store. We do not track your customer visits to our customer request verification page or in emails or SMS messages sent to your customers.

3. How Do We Use Your Personal Information?

We use the personal information we collect from you and your customers in order to provide the Service and to operate the App. [Additionally, we use this personal information to: Communicate with you; Optimize or improve the App; and Provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

4. Sharing Your Personal Information

We do not share your personal information with 3rd parties or that of your customers. We reserve the right to transfer any collected personal information to a 3rd party in the case of a sale of the company or asset sale of the company and the App, but the only purpose of such a sale would be to continue operation of the app by the 3rd party and not to leverage your personal information in a way that's different from our current use of your peronsal information or your customer's personal information.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

Behavioural Advertising As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

Data Retention

When you signup for the App, we will maintain your shop profile information. When you cancel your subscription, we may maintain your shop profile information for an undetermined period of time afterwards unless and until you ask us to delete this information.


We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
